November movie: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Top films for November

The clocks have gone back and winter is upon us – yes, November is here. As usual, to celebrate the start of the new month here’s a rundown of the biggest and best movies coming our way.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

This is a no-brainer. I cannot wait to see how this film handles the death of Chadwick Boseman (RIP) and carries on the legacy of Black Panther. I’ve read so many amazing first reactions so I’m more excited now, despite my current Marvel fatigue. Letitia Wright, Danai Gurira and Lupita Nyong’o are back for what is likely to be the most poignant and moving MCU movie yet. Here’s my review. In cinemas from 11th November.

Weird: The Al Yankovic Story

You wouldn’t expect a straightforward biopic about parody singer “Weird Al” Yankovic, would you? Good, because you’re not getting one. Much like the man’s music, this film is a parody of the biopic genre as a whole and you should not trust anything in this movie as fact. Daniel Radcliffe is a riot in this ridiculous movie. Here’s my review. Streaming free on The ROKU Channel from 4th November.

Disenchanted

I am hoping and praying for this to be good. I love the original Enchanted so I hope this is a worthy sequel that justifies its existence. Amy Adams is back as Giselle and is reunited with returning stars James Marsden, Patrick Dempsey and Idina Menzel, while Maya Rudolph joins the franchise as a villain. This time around, Giselle questions her happily ever after and turns everyone’s lives upside down in the process. Here’s my review. On Disney+ from 18th November.

The Menu

Mark Mylod‘s thriller/horror sounds right up my street because it basically satirises fine dining and rich people. Anya Taylor-Joy and Nicholas Hoult play a couple who travel to a remote island to experience an exclusive restaurant run by Ralph Fiennes. I cannot wait for this one. In cinemas from 18th November.

November movie - The Wonder.
The Wonder. Netflix.

The Wonder

I saw this movie at LFF and absolutely adored it. Florence Pugh plays a nurse who travels to Ireland to observe a girl who hasn’t eaten in four months. The locals believe she is a miracle or a saint while the nurse believes there’s a far more logical explanation. Pugh never misses and this film intrigued me throughout. Here’s my review. In cinemas from 2nd November and Netflix from 16th November.

Living

There are a lot of LFF titles in this list – and here’s another! Bill Nighy is terrific as a man who goes about his life on autopilot until he receives a shocking health diagnosis. This wonderful film will really make you look hard at your own life and wonder if you are really living. Here’s my review. In cinemas from 4th November.

Aftersun

This moving drama was my top film at LFF and I cannot recommend it enough. The film is set in the ’90s and it follows young father Calum (Paul Mescal) as he takes his daughter Sophie (Frankie Corio) to a holiday resort in Turkey. It doesn’t sound like much but honestly, the story is beautiful and hit me like a ton of bricks emotionally at the end. Tissues are a must! Here’s my review. In cinemas from 18th November.

She Said

I’m sure we can all remember the shockwaves the Harvey Weinstein scandal sent throughout Hollywood and the world back in October 2017. Well, this journalism drama (one of my favourite subgenres) shows how Jodi Kantor (Zoe Kazan) and Megan Twohey (Carey Mulligan) discovered the allegations, collected stories about the disgraced producer and fought for sources to go on the record before they published their groundbreaking expose. This made me tear up several times. Here’s my review. In cinemas from 25th November.

Bones and All

Last but by no means least – another LFF banger, Bones and All. Luca Guadagnino‘s story of cannibalistic lovers on a road trip is shocking and beautiful and will stick with you well after the credits roll. Taylor Russell and Timothee Chalamet are terrific are the leads but Mark Rylance steals the show with his menacing supporting character. Here’s my review. In cinemas from 25th November.

Other movies out this month: Enola Holmes 2, Causeway, Call Jane, Falling for Christmas, My Father’s Dragon, Spirited, Armaggedon Time, Strange World, Aisha, Confess, Fletch, and Glass Onion (cinemas).
