WandaVision remains Marvel’s best live-action Disney+ show

Following the conclusion of Moon Knight last week, I think it’s time to rank the current MCU series on Disney+! There’s no point really trying to hide my number one because WandaVision is by far the best and I’ve made that known on Twitter already.

The gap between spots one and two are significant – none of the other shows has even come close – but for the sake of a good list, here’s how the other live-action shows stack up.

WandaVision

I didn’t think this was perfect by any means but it was just so interesting, exciting and fresh. It didn’t feel like a superhero show for a long time and the whole TV sitcom concept was so out-there and unexpected. Elizabeth Olsen finally got the opportunity to dig deep with Wanda Maximoff after being sidelined most of the time and she was terrific. Her performance is definitely one of the MCU’s best so far. Plus, we got Kathryn Hahn as Agatha, her excellent song Agatha All Along and Teyonah Parris as Monica. I also loved what it had to say about grief.

Hawkeye

I actually had to think about this hard because I know my favourite and my least favourite and the other three are interchangeable in the middle. But I decided to go with Hawkeye next because I enjoy Hailee Steinfeld and stories set at Christmas and we got more Florence Pugh as Yelena and Pizza Dog!

Ms. Marvel

I initially wasn’t going to bother watching this one but then I started reading all the positive reactions. I enjoyed it a lot, Iman Vellani is an absolute star and I actually learned so much about Pakistan and India’s history watching it. I’m excited to see what happens to this storyline next following that mid-credits tease!

Loki

This felt like throwaway fluff but I had some fun with it (even if I didn’t follow it all that well). Tom Hiddleston was as mischievous as ever as Loki and I liked Sophia Di Martino as Sylvie and Owen Wilson as TVA agent Mobius. The alligator variant of Loki was excellent too. I actually don’t remember this show very well which isn’t a good sign.

Moon Knight

I was quite disappointed by this. I thought Oscar Isaac was excellent in the dual role (particularly that transition in episode five) and May Calamawy was a revelation. But I honestly couldn’t tell you what the heck was going on – I had to read explainers to understand what I had just watched! Plus, the CGI wasn’t top-notch at times and sometimes it felt rushed. It just felt a bit cheap occasionally! I didn’t really want more but I think it tried to pack too much into the finale so maybe it needed seven episodes instead of six.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier

I just found this series so dull! I don’t even know how that’s possible considering it stars Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and the new Captain America (Anthony Mackie). I saw it when it came out last March/April and I couldn’t tell you what happened. I’ve forgotten most of it – except Wyatt Russell as bad Captain America.

I kept this list to live-action simply because I haven’t seen What If…? – it didn’t appeal to me. Apparently, it would have been helpful to see it before Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness but I did OK without it.
