Top films for March
We have arrived at a new month once again – hey March! – so it’s time to look ahead to the next few weeks in movie releases.
Creed III
Michael B. Jordan makes his directorial debut with the third instalment in the Creed franchise. He’s back at Adonis Creed, who is forced to come out of retirement when a childhood friend-turned-boxing rival, played by Jonathan Majors, comes back into his life. It’s a solid but predictable entry into the Rocky/Creed franchise. Here’s my review. In cinemas Friday.
Scream VI
So long Woodsboro! After the events of last year’s movie, the survivors, including sisters Sam and Tara (Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega) move out of the suburban town and relocate to New York City. Obviously, it wouldn’t be a Scream movie if Ghostface didn’t show up and start a new killing spree. I’m excited to see the slasher franchise move to the big city but sad that Neve Campbell – a Scream institution – won’t be back as Sidney Prescott. Here’s my review. In cinemas from 8th March.
Boston Strangler
I love journalism dramas and seeing women fighting the man, so this is very up my street. Keira Knightley and Carrie Coon (top combo) play the reporters who broke the story of the Boston Strangler serial killer in the 1960s. Here’s my review. On Disney+ from 17th March.
John Wick: Chapter 4
Keanu Reeves returns as professional hitman John Wick, who is still fighting his way to freedom. Unfortunately, the High Table is still on the hunt for him and he has enemies lining up to take him down. Expect more insane action-packed sequences and mind-blowing stunt choreography in this fourth instalment, which also stars franchise newcomers Donnie Yen, Bill Skarsgard and Hiroyuki Sanada. Here’s my review. In cinemas from 24th March.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods
I’m not super excited about this, even though I really enjoyed the first film and this one promises more Adam Brody (one of my OG celeb crushes). However, I’m willing to be won over just like I was back in 2019. In this outing, Billy Batson and superhero alter ego Shazam (played by Zachary Levi) go up against the Daughters of Atlas, played by Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu and Rachel Zegler. Here’s my review. In cinemas from 17th March.
Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves
I’ll admit, my expectations for this are rather low but I’m willing to check it out for the sake of Chris Pine, Hugh Grant, Michelle Rodriguez and Regé-Jean Page. Based on the classic game, this action-adventure follows a charming thief and a band of unlikely individuals as they go on a quest for a lost relic. Here’s my review. In cinemas from 31st March.
Tetris
I did not expect to be putting a movie about the arcade game Tetris on my list but it stars Taron Egerton, my fave! He plays American businessman Henk Rogers, who teamed up with Russian game inventor Alexey Pajitnov to fight Russian authorities in order to bring Tetris to the masses in the 1980s. It looks like an interesting story! Here’s my review. On Apple TV+ from 31st March.
A Good Person
I will happily watch anything Florence Pugh is in because I believe she’s one of the most exciting, captivating young performers working today. In this film, written and directed by Zach Braff, she plays Allison, whose life falls apart after her involvement in a fatal accident. Here’s my review. In cinemas and on Sky Cinema from 24th March.
Best of the rest: Close, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, Luther: The Fallen Sun, Champions, 65, Rye Lane, Allelujah, Pearl, Marlowe, 80 For Brady and Infinity Pool.
