LFF 2022: My top five most anticipated films

The London Film Festival has begun! After taking a year off to get this site up and running, I’m back as press this year and bringing you as many LFF film reviews as I possibly can.

To celebrate the first day of the fest, here’s a rundown of the five films I cannot wait to see at LFF this year.

Bones and All

Yes, I’m a Timothee Chalamet fan, guilty as charged! His reunion with Luca Guadagnino is an ’80s romance horror in which he and Taylor Russell play cannibalistic lovers who go on a road trip across America. A mix of romance and gore sounds right up my alley.

The Whale

As a longtime The Mummy champion, I am so here for the Brendan Fraser comeback! And the fact he is getting Oscar buzz for this role makes me so happy. In Darren Aronofsky‘s drama, Fraser plays a morbidly obese man who tries to reconnect with his estranged daughter, played by Sadie Sink (who is also having a terrific year).

The rave reviews for Charlotte Wells‘ directorial debut have been coming in thick and fast over the past few months and I was thrilled when LFF announced it. I cannot wait to see what all the hype is about. The film follows Paul Mescal and newcomer Frankie Corio as a young father and his daughter as they go on holiday in Turkey. I’ll admit, the plot doesn’t exactly scream showstopper but I’ve been reliably informed that it is fantastic.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery

I thoroughly enjoyed Rian Johnson‘s Agatha Christie-inspired whodunit Knives Out back in 2019 and I’m excited to see what he’s come up with for his sequel Glass Onion. Daniel Craig returns as Southern detective Benoit Blanc and this time his sleuthing takes him to a private Greek island. The ensemble cast includes Edward Norton, Janelle Monae, Kate Hudson, Kathryn Hahn and so many more.

The Banshees of Inisherin

I loved Martin McDonagh‘s previous films, especially In Bruges and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, so I’m hyped for his latest movie. His In Bruges stars Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson reunite for this black comedy, which is set on a remote island off the coast of Ireland. Conflict arises between two best buds when Padriac abruptly ends their friendship. If the reviews out of Venice are any indication, this is another winner for McDonagh.
