Top films for September
It is time! A new month is upon us so get ready for my rundown of the biggest and best film releases coming your way in September. Here are the ones I’m most looking forward to:
Don’t Worry Darling
The tabloid nonsense surrounding this movie has made me very worried (darling) because I’ve been excited about this for ages. Florence Pugh plays Alice, who moved to the company town Victory with her husband Jack (Harry Styles), who works for a mysterious project of the same name. Her world comes crumbling down when she starts to question everything. I really hope it’s good and can rise above the headlines. Chris Pine, Gemma Chan and Olivia Wilde (the director) also star. In cinemas from 23rd September. Review.
Blonde
Ana de Armas as Marilyn Monroe? Yes, please! I have been deliberately avoiding trailers because I want to know as little as possible about this. All I know is that it’s not your conventional biopic and is instead a psychological drama and fictionalised take on the Hollywood icon’s life. It’s been a long time coming and I’m hyped! In cinemas from 16th September and Netflix from 23rd September. Review.
See How They Run
I love Saoirse Ronan and I enjoy a good whodunnit so See How They Run is right up my street. An American film producer comes to 1950s London with plans to adapt a play but things go awry when crew members wind up murdered. Ronan and Sam Rockwell play the detectives on the case and their co-stars include David Oyelowo, Ruth Wilson, Adrien Brody and Harris Dickinson. It looks like a lot of fun – sign me up! In cinemas from 9th September. Review.
Ticket to Paradise
George Clooney and Julia Roberts reunite on our screens for the first time since 2016’s Money Monster. In this romantic comedy, they play exes who team up to stop their daughter from marrying a man she’s just met. This could be awesome or really pants tbh – but there’s only one way to find out! The excellent Kaitlyn Dever and Billie Lourd co-star. In cinemas from 6th September. Review.
Hocus Pocus 2
Better Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy are back as the Sanderson sisters!! This is probably my most anticipated movie of the month. I LOVE the original Hocus Pocus and watch it every Halloween. I can’t believe there’s another one and I’m worried it’ll be rubbish so my fingers and toes are crossed. I hope that they waited this long because they finally found a good story to tell. On Disney+ from 30th September. Review.
Pinocchio
Disney continues its pattern of live-action remakes with Pinocchio, the story of the wooden puppet who is brought to life. Tom Hanks stars as Geppetto alongside Cynthia Erivo, Luke Evans and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the voice of Jiminy Cricket. This isn’t to be confused with Guillermo del Toro‘s stop-motion animation version of Pinocchio, which will be released later this year. On Disney+ from 8th September.
Best of the rest: Fall, Moonage Daydream, Crimes of the Future, Bodies Bodies Bodies, The Forgiven, After Yang, Catherine Called Birdy, Three Thousand Years of Longing, Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris, Clerks III, The Greatest Beer Run Ever and Smile.
