December film: Pinocchio

Top films for December

We had a crazy busy release schedule in October and November, but it sure seems to have dried up! The December slate is very quiet but there are still some notable releases. Check them out:

Violent Night

Want to see Santa Claus unleash his mad John Wick skills on a gang of mercenaries? Well, you’ve come to the right place! David Harbour is having the best time as the skull-crushing Santa in this fun, festive and flippin’ gruesome action-comedy. Here’s my review. In cinemas from 2nd December.

Lady Chatterley’s Lover

In this raunchy adaptation of D.H. Lawrence’s scandalous novel, Emma Corrin plays an unhappily married aristocrat who begins an affair with the gamekeeper (played by Jack O’Connell) on her husband’s estate. Judging by the trailer, there’s plenty of sex and nudity in this! On Netflix from 2nd December.

Avatar: The Way of Water

It’s been 13 years since James Cameron broke box office records with 2009’s Avatar and introduced us to the blue Na’vi people. This sequel once again focuses on Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) and the lengths they must go to to keep each other safe. I’m expecting to be completely blown away by this visually – not sure about the 3-hour 12-minute runtime though! Here’s my review. In cinemas from 16th December

December: Glass Onion - A Knives Out Mystery
Glass Onion (Netflix)

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery

This has already been in cinemas for a week but it is finally coming to Netflix. Daniel Craig returns as Southern detective Benoit Blanc and this time around he has to solve a murder on a private Greek island, with a line-up of suspects featuring Kate Hudson, Edward Norton, Janelle Monae, Dave Bautista and many more. This is funnier than the first movie but still not amazing. Here’s my review. On Netflix from 23rd December.

Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio

I absolutely adored this stop-motion animated musical. It takes a different – and much darker – approach to the Pinocchio we all know so well and I was completely in awe of it from a technical perspective. It is a huge achievement technically, the visuals are stunning and the story ticked all the boxes. Here’s my review. On Netflix from 9th December.

I Wanna Dance with Somebody

The latest music biopic has arrived. As you might have guessed from the title, this one tells the incredible but heartbreaking story of Whitney Houston and charts her rise from obscurity to music superstardom. Naomi Ackie plays the legendary singer, while Stanley Tucci portrays her mentor Clive Davis. Here’s my review. In cinemas from 26th December.

Best of the rest: White Noise, Corsage, Emancipation, The Silent Twins, Nocebo, Something from Tiffany’s and Nanny.
