Top films for May
It is somehow another month already so it’s time for yet another movie preview post! Here’s a rundown of the biggest and best films coming our way this May.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
Now the multiverse has been opened, the possibilities for this film are endless! Following on from Spider-Man: No Way Home, Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) recruits allies old and new to venture into the multiverse to face a mysterious adversary. I’m not that excited about this Marvel character but I’m thrilled to see more of Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch after the terrific WandaVision. There have been sooo many rumours about who will appear in this so make sure you see it soon to avoid spoilers. In cinemas 5th May. Here’s my review.
Everything Everywhere All at Once
May is a big month for multiverse movies! Action icon Michelle Yeoh plays a Chinese-American woman named Evelyn who discovers that she must connect with parallel universe versions of herself to stop a powerful being from causing destruction to them all. The hype surrounding this movie is nuts and I have heard nothing but positive things. Can’t wait to see it! In cinemas 13th May. Here’s my review.
Firestarter
Zac Efron explores the horror genre with this adaptation of Stephen King‘s novel of the same name. He plays a father who must protect his daughter Charlie (Ryan Kiera Armstrong) after she develops pyrokinesis – the ability to create and control fire with her mind – and is hunted by a secret government agency. I’m intrigued about this one. In cinemas 13th May.
Top Gun: Maverick
I feel the need… the need for speed! The long-awaited sequel to the 1986 classic Top Gun is almost here. Tom Cruise once again plays test pilot Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell and this time around he’s put in charge of training a group of Top Gun graduates. Early reactions to this film have been overwhelmingly positive so far so I predict a smash hit. In cinemas 27th May. Here’s my review.
Senior Year
This comedy starring Rebel Wilson sounds incredibly silly and I’m sure I’ll love it. After a cheerleading stunt goes wrong, Stephanie (Wilson) falls into a 20-year coma. When she wakes up, aged 37, she wants to live out her high school dream – becoming prom queen. Amazing concept! Streaming on Netflix from 13th May. Here’s my review.
Other films out this month – The Bob’s Burgers Movie, The Contractor, Father Stu, Benediction and The Innocents.
