Top films for March
Yet another month has rolled by and we are now in March! There are tons and tons of films coming out this month so here’s a rundown of the ones I’m excited about or have seen already and think are awesome.
The Batman
Robert Pattinson makes his debut as the Caped Crusader in Matt Reeves‘ neo-noir detective take on the Batman story. If you think of Se7en and Zodiac then you’ll have a good idea of what you’re getting. The cinematography, score and performances are excellent but there is no need for it to be three hours long. Here’s my review. Released Friday.
Ali & Ava
Fancy something completely different this Friday? I highly recommend the wonderful Ali & Ava, starring Claire Rushbrook and Adeel Akhtar as two unlikely friends who might become something more. I found this more moving than I expected. Here’s my review. In cinemas Friday.
The Adam Project
Ryan Reynolds is back on our screens once again in Netflix’s upcoming sci-fi, which also stars Zoe Saldana, Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo. Reynolds’ Adam travels back in time to get help from his younger self to confront their late father. The cast has me sold! Here’s my review. On Netflix from 11th March.
Deep Water
Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas‘ psychological thriller has been delayed time and time again and it’s finally heading our way! He plays a husband who allows his wife to have affairs and becomes the prime suspect when her lovers begin disappearing. I’m fully sold on this premise! Here’s my review. On Prime Video from 18th March.
Turning Red
Pixar’s latest animation is on the horizon! Turning Red tells the story of Chinese-Canadian teenager Mei, who turns into a giant red panda whenever she gets too excited or stressed. What a concept! This sounds like great fun. Here’s my review. On Disney+ from 11th March.
Fresh
I have deliberately avoided reading reviews or watching the trailer as I want to go into Fresh knowing as little as possible. This gory thriller – which I heard tons about during Sundance – stars Normal People’s Daisy Edgar-Jones as a young woman who begins dating a guy (played by Sebastian Stan) with an unusual appetite. I cannot wait to see it! Feels like a weird film to have on Disney+! Here’s my review. Arriving 18th March.
Ambulance
This is a Michael Bay movie and that’s basically all you need to know! Jake Gyllenhaal and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II play adoptive brothers who rob a bank. After the heist goes wrong, they hijack an ambulance – which is occupied. This looks chaotic and wildly entertaining. Here’s my review. In cinemas from 25th March.
The Worst Person in the World
The fact this Norwegian romantic comedy has broken through into the Best Original Screenplay Oscar shortlist shows you just how good it is. The film follows Julie (Renate Reinsve) as she discovers herself, what she wants to do with life and who she wants to be with. That sounds a bit meh but I can assure you it’s not! It’s dark but also very funny. Here’s my review. In cinemas from 25th March.
Also out this month – Morbius, Red Rocket, The Weekend Away, Against the Ice, Hive, Windfall, The Phantom of the Open, Cheaper by the Dozen and Master, among many more!
