Top films for February

January is finally over so it’s time to look ahead to February and see what films are coming our way over the next month. Here are my highlights:

The Eyes of Tammy Faye

This came out ages ago in some countries and we are finally getting it here in the UK! Jessica Chastain has received a few award nominations this season for her transformation into televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker in this biopic, which charts the rise and fall of her and her husband Jim (Andrew Garfield)’s career. I’ve not heard amazing things about the film itself but I’m excited to see Chastain’s performance. You can read my review here. In cinemas from 4th February.

Moonfall

I love a good disaster movie and Roland Emmerich – the man behind Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow – knows how to do ’em! In Moonfall, as the title might suggest, the moon is knocked off its orbit and set on a collision course with space. Patrick Wilson and Halle Berry are called up to save the day! This might be terrible but I want to see it regardless. In cinemas from 4th February.

Jackass Forever

Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O, and co are back for more ridiculous, insane, and gross stunts! Prepare to cringe your way through 105 minutes of non-stop Jackass mayhem. In cinemas from 4th February.

Flee

This animated documentary has received so much critical acclaim since its debut at Sundance last January that it’s an absolute must-see. The Danish film is a surefire bet for the Best Documentary Feature and Best International Feature Film shortlists. It tells the story of a man who fled Afghanistan and started a new life in Denmark. In cinemas from 11th February.

Dog

All you need to know about this film is that it stars Channing Tatum and a dog! Sold! Co-directed by Tatum, the comedy follows the Magic Mike star as he goes on a road trip down the Pacific Coast with his beloved canine companion Lulu so they can make a fellow soldier’s funeral on time. In cinemas from 18th February.

The Duke

Jim Broadbent and Helen Mirren star in this entertaining biographical comedy-drama. Broadbent plays taxi driver Kempton Bunton, who steals Goya’s portrait of the Duke of Wellington from the National Gallery in London in the 1960s. This release has been delayed multiple times but hopefully this slot is the one that sticks. Scheduled for 25th February.

Other releases coming out in February – The Souvenir: Part II, Belle, Uncharted, Marry Me, Death on the Nile, I Want You Back, The Sky is Everywhere, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Cyrano. Keep your eyes out for those reviews!
