Top films for March

It’s the start of a new month yet again, which means it is once again time to look ahead at what’s coming to cinemas in March.

Here’s a rundown of the cinema highlights this month:

Onward

This latest outing from Pixar is so lovely that I shed a little tear towards the end. It follows a young elf named Ian (voiced by Tom Holland), who is gifted a magic staff which enables him to bring back his late father for one day. However, the magic gem breaks halfway through the spell so he goes on an adventure with his brother Barley (Chris Pratt) to find a replacement. The concept is strange and I wasn’t totally sold on the story until the emotional ending. Released: 6th March

Misbehaviour

This looks like a riot. Keira Knightley, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Jessie Buckley star in this comedy-drama about a team of women who hatch a plan to disrupt the 1970 Miss World competition in London. This is so up my street. I can’t wait to see it! Released: 13th March.

The Hunt

The Hunt, the latest horror from Blumhouse, has been causing quite the controversy, with its release being postponed last year following a series of shootings in America. However, at the time, nobody had actually seen the thing so I’m intrigued to check it out now. It stars Betty Gilpin, Emma Roberts, and Hilary Swank and follows a group of people who are being hunted for sport. I’m mentally preparing myself for gruesome things! Released: 13th March.

Radioactive

Radioactive is a biopic about Marie Curie, who helped discover two radioactive materials. While her and her husband Pierre (Sam Riley) were praised for their breakthrough discovery, it later became clear the materials were harmful. This isn’t the most exciting science biopic I’ve ever seen but it was enlightening and Rosamund Pike gave a solid performance. Review coming soon. Released: 20th March.

A Quiet Place Part II

I loved the original way more than I expected to but I wasn’t thrilled by the idea of a sequel. However, I’m excited to see what John Krasinski comes up with – it better be good otherwise I’ll be annoyed! This basically follows Evelyn (Emily Blunt) and her children as they continue to fight for survival in a world populated with aliens that hunt using sound. Released: 20th March.

Mulan

This is the latest Disney live-action remake, but one that looks quite different from the rest. Niki Caro has made many changes to 1998 original – there are no musical numbers and no Mushu, for example. However, it looks like a beautiful war movie and I’m excited to see what it’s like. For the uninitiated, Mulan (Liu Yifei) tells the story of a girl who disguises herself as a man to take her father’s place in the army. Released: 27th March.

You will notice that I missed off some releases, but I’m just not excited about them. As much as I loved the first Peter Rabbit, the sequel looks truly terrible, as does the latest Vin Diesel movie Bloodshot.
