My favourite film performances of 2018
I have just done my top 10 of 2018 film list, but I wanted to do a separate post to shed light on some of my favourite performances (and a few other miscellaneous things) from UK cinema releases this year.
The point of this is to draw attention to actors who haven’t been nominated in the 2017-2018 or 2018-2019 awards season, because they’re getting enough press enough already. This is for those who were brilliant and deserve some recognition for their work too.
My favourite performances:
Amandla Stenberg – The Hate U Give
Thomasin McKenzie – Leave No Trace
Cynthia Erivo – Bad Times at El Royale
Chloe Grace Moretz – The Miseducation of Cameron Post
John Cho – Searching
Jessie Buckley and Johnny Flynn – Beast
Laura Dern – The Tale (TV movie)
Shailene Woodley – Adrift
Yalitza Aparicio – Roma (she should be getting the big award show noms!)
Jamie Lee Curtis – Halloween
Carey Mulligan – Wildlife
Olivia Cooke & Anya Taylor-Joy – Thoroughbreds
Daveed Diggs – Blindspotting
Miscellaneous:
Best quote – “Be still my beating vagina!” (Christine Baranski, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again)
Best scene – the heist in American Animals, when Thor arrives in Wakanda in Avengers: Infinity War, the I Wanna Dance with Somebody dream sequence in Love, Simon
Best dog – Olivia in Widows
Best singing outside of a musical – Cynthia Erivo, Bad Times at the El Royale
I have reviewed each of these films and you can find them using the handy search bar on the right! Tell me about your favourite scenes and performances in the comments if you fancy.
